Sacramento Street Bridge
The Sacramento Street Bridge over Mare Island Railroad is located between Illinois Street and Farragut Ave on Sacramento Street. The bridge was originally built in 1913 and widened in the 1930s.
The existing bridge is a steel-framed structure with a concrete slab.
Seismic engineers identified the bridge to have seismic vulnerabilities per the current standards. The City of Vallejo received a grant application approval to replace the bridge from Caltrans under the Highway Bridge Program (HBP). Funding sources for the project include 88.5% federal funds from HBP and 11.5% local matching funds.
The new bridge and required roadway approach work will bring the bridge crossing up to current design standards in all aspects, including horizontal and vertical clearances for Railroad and addressing the seismic deficiencies of the existing bridge. Modifications to the existing roadway approaches required to meet the new bridge configurations are a part of the project. The City of Vallejo is currently starting the construction phase of this Project.

Share Many changes to Sacto Street lately! Traffic now goes over the bridge both north and south but getting to houses on Sacramento St west side, north of Farrugut has become way more complicated. Farragut is blocked completely at Sacramento and the only way to leave these houses is to sneak through the barriers and head north on Sacramento which is dangerous due to speeding traffic coming north. Idiots are already out there. How and when will this dangerous situation be corrected? on Facebook Share Many changes to Sacto Street lately! asked almost 3 years agoThank you for your feedback. The City’s Construction Manager and Contractor have been working on-site since the re-opening and I myself have visited the site twice since the change was complete. The flow of traffic appears to be working/flowing as planned, but we welcome any additional feedback. This will be the last major traffic change until the project is complete. If you would like to further discuss this concern or have other specific concerns about the traffic control or any other issue, please feel free to contact me with the details so that we may address them as soon as possible.

Sam asked about 3 years agoSam,
The Marin Street pavement will not be repaired along with the Sacramento Street Bridge Project. The City does have an annual pavement maintenance program, but I haven’t received the schedule for repair of this roadway segment. I will let you know when I hear back from the person in charge of that program.
Thank you,
Tom

Share I never received a response to the following question so I am asking it again. It doesn't have to be a simple question to receive a reply: The pavement on Marin Street between Illinois Street and Tennessee Street is obliterated. The daily truck traffic from the project has made it much worse. Will it be repaved once the bridge is completed? I will keep asking this question until it is answered! on Facebook Share I never received a response to the following question so I am asking it again. TeresaUTayag asked over 3 years agoThe construction is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
The project has been going full speed since March. The construction progress has been hard to see ever since the old bridge was demolished because the work has primarily been foundation work for the new bridge span. This work is all being done at the railroad track level (about 20 feet below the street surface) and not very noticeable from the street level.
Here's a photo of the current work being done.

Fauss asked over 3 years agoThe current detour is designed to reroute Sacramento Street through traffic to Sonoma Blvd while maintaining access to residents on Illinois. We anticipate that over time, regular commuters will find and use the detour and alternate routes.
