These vote results will be presented to the City Council at the August 29, Special Council Meeting.

The Cycle 8 vote phase was held from May 1 – June 30, 2023. A public vote results ice cream party was held on July 22 during the Vallejo Farmers' Market. A total of 2,553 residents took part in the Cycle 8 vote. The Cycle 7 vote, which was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, yielded 1,909 votes.

Participatory Budgeting Funding

The Participatory Budgeting project funding includes $500,000 from the Fiscal Year 2022-23, $500,000 in rollover funds from Fiscal Year 2021-2022, $8,962 in rollover funds from 2020-21, and Councilmember Arriola requested that $10,000 of Council discretionary funding go towards Participatory Budgeting. With the addition of these funds, Cycle 8 would have a total of $1,018,962 available for PB projects.

Per the PB rulebook, a minimum of 20% of available project funding is allocated for program & service projects; if/when the 20% minimum has been reached, the remaining budget will fall to the next highest vote-getting project(s).

Per this rule, the first $203,792.40 will fund the following program and service projects:

• Animals Matter Spay/Neuter, Vaccine And Microchip Project $75,000

• Basic Needs for Warming and Cooling Centers $74,982

• Removing Barriers for Foster Youth Success $48,989

The program and service project cost total is $198,971, which leaves a $4,821.40 surplus to be applied towards the remaining 80% project fund of $815,169.60 for a sum of $819,991.

$819,991 will fund the remaining highest-voted projects, which include:

• HSNB Facilities Retrofit, Reroof & Repave Capital Project HSNB Facilities $300,000

• Complete Our Streets! Safety First at 5th Street $300,000

• Modernize Vallejo Skatepark Project $219,991 (partial funding)

The sixth top-voted project is the Modernize Vallejo Skatepark Project. However, with a project cost of $300,000, this project can only be partially funded with the remaining project fund of $219,991. The implementing partner for this project is the Greater Vallejo Recreation District. Despite the funding gap, they can implement the project with a reduced scope of work and have pledged to allocate $40,000 from their funds to supplement the project. The Modernize Vallejo Skatepark project would have a $259,991 allocation and would require another $40,009 to fully fund the project as initially proposed.
