FAQs
- Water Savings
In Vallejo, upgraded meters are expected to save over three million gallons of water per year, which will strengthen Vallejo's long-term water supply. - Leak and Service Alerts
This technology will help alert Water Department staff about service breaks and leaks. This will allow us to proactively alert you if there are any problems in your area. - New Digital Tools
We are in the process of launching tools for you to manage your water usage and control your water costs. This includes an online customer portal where you can track your water use, set notifications, and learn how to identify leaks. - As is our practice, all new water meters are tested prior to installation to ensure that they properly register water usage.
- You are always welcome to call customer service to ask about your current water usage or bill.
- Coming later this year, you will have 24/7 access to an online portal where you can verify your usage and utilize other features including push-notifications, instructions to identify leaks, and conservation tips to make more informed water usage decisions in the future.
- The portal will empower you to take control of your water usage and bill, rather than wait for your water bill to arrive.
Why am I getting a new meter?
The majority of the City’s meters are older than their useful life of 20 years old, and we are updating all of them. This upgrade reflects the City of Vallejo’s commitment to maintaining and optimizing the drinking water system.
What are the benefits of the upgraded meter?
All customers will receive a meter upgrade at no additional cost, with the added benefits of:
Will I receive notice prior to my meter upgrade?
Yes! We will send a postcard to your address and hang a notice on your door before we upgrade your meter. When we complete that upgrade, we will hang a notice on your door to let you know.
Will you come into my home?
The Water Department and Concord Utility Services (the City’s certified installation contractor) will never come into your home. Each installer will drive a clearly marked Concord vehicle, dress in uniform, and carry a valid photo ID badge. Installers will knock and attempt to notify you before starting work.
If someone who claims to be from the Vallejo Water Department or Concord Utility Services asks to come into your home, do not let them.
Will my water bill increase?
It depends on several factors. Issues, such as leaks on your property, water meter accuracy, irregular usage, affect customer billing. The City of Vallejo is completing this project with our customers in mind by taking the following steps:
These upgraded water meters will provide more information and awareness to ensure a better overall experience for both the City and our customers.
How will the City of Vallejo use my information? Can my information be hacked?
The security of customer information is a top priority for the City. The new water meters record, encrypt, and securely deliver water usage information to the Water Department. Readings will be used for billing and improving system performance.
Meters can report only data about water usage. Meters do not have any information about you or your water account. Water meters are identified by a unique serial number and not by Water Department account information. Your personal information is not tied to your water meter.
Can I opt out of this meter upgrade?
Customers cannot opt out of this meter upgrade. The meter upgrades are required for anyone using the Vallejo Water system.
