HOUSING ELEMENT
The Housing Element will analyze Vallejo’s specific housing needs, identify sites suitable for housing, assesses fair housing conditions, and provide goals, policies, and programs to respond to identified issues to encourage development of additional adequate housing to meet the needs of all income levels in the community. Community input will be a key component of the Housing Element.
ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE ELEMENT
“Environmental justice” is the concept that everyone deserves to live in a safe and healthy neighborhood, regardless of income, race, ethnicity, education, or other factors. The environmental justice component of this General Plan will gather data and community input on issues of equity, health, and environmental racism. Examples might include exposure to air and water pollution, access to parks and recreation, and access to healthy and affordable food. It will identify specific groups who are most impacted by these issues so that the City can develop policies to help improve conditions around them.
SAFETY AND RESILIENCE ELEMENT
The Safety Element will include updated information about natural hazards like earthquakes, fires, floods, and droughts, as well as evacuation and emergency preparedness and response. It must also identify how these and other hazards in Vallejo are exacerbated by climate change, and what populations, locations, and community features are particularly vulnerable to climate hazards and changing climate conditions. The Safety Element will provide strategies to reduce the risks of death, injuries, property damage, and economic and social dislocation and to increase the community’s resilience.
